Bloons TD 6 (often shortened to BTD6) is a 3D tower defense game from Ninja Kiwi, with version 16.1 live on Android, iOS, Steam, and consoles. You place monkey towers along a winding track and pop waves of balloons before they reach the exit and drain your lives. What separates it from older entries is depth: 25 towers across four families, each with three upgrade paths and an activated ability, 17 heroes that level up mid-match, Paragon mega-upgrades, more than 70 handcrafted maps, and a difficulty ladder that climbs from Easy all the way to the brutal CHIMPS rules. The strongest Monkey Towers in Bloons TD 6 and where each one carries

The support and economy group is what actually wins CHIMPS:

  • Alchemist (Magic): the 4-2-0 Permanent Brew buffs every nearby tower’s damage and pierce, which is why it sits in nearly every top-level loadout as a staple rather than a damage dealer.
  • Banana Farm (Support): the only pure income tower, scaling through Monkey-Nomics and Central Market so you can afford the expensive win condition before round 80.

If you want one rule of thumb for a serious run: build a damage carry, glue an Alchemist next to it, and back the whole thing with a Banana Farm. That trio holds up on far more maps than any single overpowered tower.

Picking a hero: who to start with and who scales to round 100

You bring exactly one hero into a match, and that single pick shifts more of your strategy than any tower choice. The 17 heroes range from free starters to specialists that only earn their slot in the hardest modes, so the right answer depends entirely on what you are clearing.

Quincy is the free default and stays useful for a long time. His arrows hit several balloons at once and his Storm of Arrows ability clears early clumps for nothing. Gwendolin is the reliable all-rounder, adding fire damage that pops lead and a Heat It Up burst that strips camo and ignites a lane. For new players learning the maps, those two cover most of the early grind without forcing a particular tower set.

For tougher content the picks narrow. Adora scales harder than almost anyone late, since her Blood Sacrifice ability consumes nearby towers to permanently raise her own damage, making her terrifying past round 80. Sauda is a melee assassin who clears the early and mid rounds so cheaply that she frees up cash for your economy. Benjamin skips combat entirely and prints money through his Bank Hack and IMF Loan, which is why he anchors many Half Cash and economy runs. Obyn Greenfoot supercharges Magic and Druid towers and drops a free Wall of Trees to block a lane. Pat Fusty’s Rallying Roar hands nearby towers an attack-speed boost and his slam stuns tough blimps. The balloons you pop are not a single enemy but a layered system, and the moment you understand which layer hides under which colour, the difficulty spikes start to make sense. Standard bloons climb a colour ladder, each one releasing the weaker ones beneath it when popped: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Pink, then Black and White, Purple, Lead, Zebra, Rainbow, and finally Ceramic, the toughest non-blimp.

On top of colour, three properties change everything. Camo bloons are invisible to towers without detection. Lead shrugs off sharp attacks and needs explosives or magic. Regrow heals back up the ladder if you let it slip past, and Fortified doubles a bloon’s health. A Camo Lead Fortified Ceramic stacks all of these at once, which is why late rounds punish loadouts with no utility.

From round 40 onward, the MOAB-class blimps arrive, and their health is measured in hits:

All difficulty modes and why CHIMPS is the real test

Bloons TD 6 is not one game but a difficulty ladder, and the top rung quietly switches off every safety net you leaned on to get there. Each track carries medals for its sub-modes, with 3 on Easy, 4 on Medium, 5 on Hard, and 2 on Impoppable.

  • Easy: Standard, Primary Monkeys Only, and Deflation (which starts at round 31 with no income). The boss balloon is the MOAB.
  • Medium: Standard, Military Monkeys Only, Apopalypse, and Reverse, ending on the BFB.
  • Hard: Standard, Magic Monkeys Only, Double HP MOABs, Alternate Bloons Rounds, and Half Cash, which halves every form of income. Hard runs begin at round 3 and finish on the ZOMG.

CHIMPS is the ceiling, and its name is the rule set. No Continues, no Hearts lost (you start and stay at one life), no Income perks, no Monkey Knowledge, no Powers, and no Selling towers to recoup cash. You start at round 6 with a fixed amount and have to survive to 100 with a defense that never gets a bail-out. That is why CHIMPS rewards the support-and-carry approach over a single strong tower: you cannot patch a mistake with a Power or a sold-tower refund.

Beyond the difficulty grid sit the long-tail modes: Boss Events against the named blimps, Odysseys that chain several maps under shared rules, Contested Territory where six teams fight over a shared map, four-player Co-Op on every track, Races, a Sandbox for testing, and a Content Browser full of community challenges. The Frontier Legends DLC adds a separate campaign with its own towns, fishing, and bosses.

How Paragons work and what it costs to build one

A Paragon is a single tower fused from all three of a tower’s maxed tier-5 upgrades, and it is the most expensive unit you can field. Introduced in Version 27.0 alongside Boss Bloons, Paragons sit a full tier above everything else as the 5-5-5 endgame.

Building one is deliberately demanding. You first need all three tier-5 upgrades of the same tower placed on the map at once, which alone can run hundreds of thousands of cash. Upgrading any of those three into the Paragon then absorbs every tower of that type on the map, including the other two tier-5s. The total cash spent, upgrades bought, damage dealt, and cash produced by the absorbed towers all feed a hidden Degree value, and a higher Degree means stronger stats. Because reaching maximum Degree takes either huge spending or stockpiled Paragon parts, you almost only see them in Freeplay and Boss Events rather than a normal CHIMPS clear.

The roster keeps growing through community votes.
